Victoria Park is a public park in St James which is said to be a quiet 16-acre retreat.

It is located near the train station in St James and it’s away from the main and busy roads making it a much more calming visit.

The park was opened in 1898 on land which was donated by the Earl Spencer.

At the time Victoria Park opened, it was half the size it is today. More land was added later in 1910 and 1911 by the Earl.

In 2007, the park had a huge upgrade as a part of a major regeneration project.

This then allowed for new landscaping, footpaths, and park furniture to be added along with new play equipment which gave Victoria Park a newer and brighter feeling to it making it more inviting to visit.

The area is open and welcome to anyone to take a walk through as well as walking their dogs there.

Christine Nichols, a visitor to the park, said: “The park is well kept, and it was very relaxing to walk through.”

Around the park, there are fitness apparatuses which are available to the public to use.

The park is divided into two parts, you can get to the second part by crossing a bridge which is over a small stream which runs through the park.

It is divided by the Northampton flood defence scheme.

You can view the stream running from the bridges which provides for a scenic walk.
