The Foundation, which is associated with, but financially independent from, Northampton Saints Rugby Football Club, won NNBN’s Charity of the Year award for 2023 on October 6th.
The award spotlighted the work the Foundation has done to improve the lives of children in Northamptonshire throughout the year.
Head of Foundation & Social Inclusion Lead Jordan Letts said that the award is “A recognition of the hard work of the staff at the Foundation.”
Founded in 2018 following the rugby club’s successful HITZ and Engage programmes, Northampton Saints Foundation (NSF) uses values found in rugby like discipline, respect, and teamwork to improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people.
NSF holds programmes to teach young people important skills, such as how to write, communicate, and behave in social settings. These include classroom-based lessons, as well as practical sessions such as those held at Boost Trampoline Park.
They have a particular focus on helping young people get into education, hosting support sessions for those not in education, employment, or training, and emergency programmes for students at risk of exclusion from their schools.
Mr. Lett said that the Foundation would put the £1,000 donated to the charity by the NNBN into these programmes in order to improve the help they can offer to their learners.
The charity hopes to continue to grow through 2024, in order to offer greater support to at risk young people.
“Our goal is to grow so big that our learners no longer need us.” Jordan said when discussing NSF’s ambitions for 2024.
